Mini MineWolf Demonstrated on Tajikistan/Afghanistan Border
29.04.2010

A Mini MineWolf has been bought to rid the Tajik/Afghan border of landmines. This is part of an integrated mechanical and manual demining project supported by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United States Office of Defense Cooperation and the Tajik authorities.

The OSCE, in conjunction with the Tajik MoD, are conducting national capacity building for mine action.  The aim is to map, mark and remove the anti-personnel minefields along the Tajik/Afghan border so that the Tajik border guards can safely conduct border security and control operations.

“The creation of an integrated mine clearance asset in Tajikistan, the first of its kind in Central Asia is an important step towards eradicating landmines from this region”, said Ambassador Ivar Vikki, the Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.

Today, in the Southern town on Panj on the Afghan border, the Mini MineWolf and manual demining teams were demonstrated to H.E. Kenneth E Gross, US Ambassador to Tajikistan; H.E. Ivar Vikki, OSCE Ambassador to Tajikistan and General Nadirov, Chief of the General Staff of the Tajik Military and First Deputy Minister of Defence.
