Inspection of a MineWolf Systems / FSD operational demining site in Southern Sudan

21 Jan. 2007: The Minister of the Environment from the Government of South Sudan (GOSS) Mr. James Loro and Mr. Joseph Legge, Director of the Internal Audit Department, inspected a MineWolf Systems / Fondation Suisse de Déminage (FSD) operational demining site. The minefield, known as Rajef, is located approximately 20km south of Juba in the South of Sudan. The visit included a technical briefing of the MineWolf tiller system, and inspection of blast tolerance and the destruction of AT mines during routine demining operations with the MineWolf.

Following the inspection Minister Loro said “I am most impressed with the capabilities of the MineWolf and I look forward to conducting regular visits in the future to stay aware of its progress.’’

Funded by UNOPS, FSD together with MineWolf Systems are currently helping to clear two mine-contaminated areas near Juba and Wau in South Sudan using two MineWolf mechanical demining units for technical survey. A 3rd MineWolf is also in operation with Norwegian People´s Aid (NPA) who are conducting technical survey and mine and route/road clearance operations in Yei.

The collaboration with FSD has been very successful and the technical survey will save deminers countless time and effort during final clearance operations.
